About Me.

Picture
Please take a moment to read a little about who I am, where I’ve been and where I want to take research administration in order to gain an understanding of my philosophy of learning design.  I know a thing or two about inequity.  From growing up in a low-income household as the mixed-racial minority son of refugee immigrants to being treated like a second-class citizen throughout my career, I’ve fought against unjust systems my whole life.  Now I’m poised to do something about it and improve the lives of others in my chosen profession. As a research administrator, I’ve witnessed first-hand the implosion of a research administration teams that once held great promise and overflowed with raw talent.  Ironically, it was the lack of education, resources, and opportunities for practice for these university employees that led to the team’s demise.

I desperately wanted to do something about it but found myself trapped. That’s why I entered the LDT MEd program.  My experiences in Rossier’s 2-year program have imbued me with the four pillars of its mission statement: leadership, access, equity, and inclusion.  With the knowledge gained in this program, I aim for something that will revolutionize research administration.  I aim to develop a program that will truly catapult the profession into the 21st century.  The field is ripe for it; I know because I’ve worked as a research administrator for nearly a decade—I can sense it.

As an instructional designer, I believe that fostering a collaborative and supporting environment is as important as evidence-based theories, principles and strategies for creating and implementing meaningful instruction. Which is why opportunities for practice and collaboration are embedded in my approach to designing instruction.
